World Space Week 2025

Living in Space

As an annual tradition, World Space Week Association (WSWA) Board of Directors select a theme that encapsulates the essence and goals for the upcoming World Space Week (WSW), celebrated globally from October 4-10. For World Space Week (WSW) 2025, the chosen theme is “Living in Space.” This theme explores humanity’s journey toward making space a habitat, emphasizing the innovative technologies, challenges, and collaborative efforts that make this vision a reality.

What is World Space Week?

World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10. These dates commemorate two events:

  • October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, thus opening the way for space exploration
  • October 10, 1967: The signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.

A Week of Discovery and Action

World Space Week 2025 is set to educate, inspire, and connect the global community, focusing on humanity’s strides in developing sustainable living solutions for space. This significant week of space celebration will highlight groundbreaking advancements, from life support systems and space habitats to research on human adaptability and resource utilization in extraterrestrial environments.

Building the Foundation of Space Living

WSW 2025 stands as a connecting platform for global collaboration, uniting experts, students, and enthusiasts to discuss and craft strategies for sustainable living in space. If this mission resonates with you, we invite collaboration in various forms. We are open to co-organizing webinars, sharing educational materials provided by partners through our platform, and exploring other avenues of cooperation. This is an opportunity to contribute your knowledge, resources, and initiatives toward shaping a future where living in space becomes an achievable reality.

Engaging Activities: Learning and Leading

Event organizers worldwide are encouraged to integrate the theme “Living in Space” into their World Space Week events. Activities may range from educational workshops and interactive sessions to panel discussions and collaborative projects, all aimed at fostering innovative environmental solutions.

Join the Journey: Celebrate World Space Week

WSWA extends an open invitation for worldwide involvement in World Space Week 2025. Through organizing events, participating in educational programs, donating to the Association or spreading awareness, each person can play a part in enhancing our collective understanding of the crucial role space technology plays in the fight against climate change. Let’s unite to make WSW 2025 a landmark event in our ongoing journey towards living in space.
